Anti-shatter protection of slabs with SafeNet system implemented at the local health centre in Chieri for securing slabs

The Ruregold SafeNet slab anti-shatter protection system was used during the redevelopment of the local health centre in Chieri. The system, which consists of an AR fibreglass mesh and structural connection systems, represents a complete, versatile solution for rendering existing slabs safe. Thanks to the ease of application, it was possible to repair and secure the structure, which presented widespread phenomena of shatter and falling of ceiling fragments, in a short space of time.

Tests conducted by Milan Polytechnic on the SafeNet have confirmed that it is capable of withstanding ceiling shatter and falling load of up to 500 kg/m2.

The ceiling anti-shatter protection systems for the local health centre in Chieri

The Ruregold SafeNet slab anti-shatter protection system was used to secure the structure during the redevelopment of the local health centre in Chieri. Commonplace in buildings constructed between the 1940s and 1970s, the phenomenon of shatter and falling of ceiling fragments occurs when the lower panels becoming detached from the lightening blocks inserted in mixed concrete beam and brick slabs, constituting a safety hazard. The SafeNet system, which consists of an epoxy-coated AR fibreglass mesh, SafePlaster fibre-reinforced reduced shrinkage plaster mortar and three different types of connection system, represents a practical, secure safety solution that is suitable for use on any type of slab. In fact, thanks to the various structural anchoring systems (V-CLS, T-CLS, T-CLS FACE-TO-FACE), the mesh may be secured either to the slab intrados (lower side), in correspondence with the existing joists or, if this is not possible, to the slab extrados (upper side) in the existing concrete cover. Tests conducted at Milan Polytechnic have confirmed that the system is capable of withstanding an over load of 500 kg/m² when applied with SafePlaster fibre-reinforced plaster mortar.
