The Ruregold FRCM structural strengthening systems were used during the process of restoration and redevelopment the Ospedale Vecchio (Old Hospital) in Parma, one of the city’s most important monuments.
The strengthening systems were selected for a series of structural strengthening interventions and anti-seismic improvements designed to restore the building’s static functionality.
The solutions selected for this project were Ruregold’s FRCM structural strengthening systems.
In this specific instance, PBO-Mesh 22/22 was used, together with MX-PBO Masonry, the cementitious fibre-reinforced inorganic matrix, PBO-Joint, the PBO fibre connector systems, and MX-PVA Fibre-Reinforced mortar, providing excellent results.
The system was connected to the substrate using PBO-Joint, the PBO fibre connector developed for use with Ruregold FRCM systems.
In addition to restoring the static functionality of the complex, the work also improved resistance to seismic phenomena by approximately 60%.
Once the work is complete, the urban regeneration project associated with the redevelopment of the Ospedale Vecchio will be divided into a series of initiatives: the creation of a multimedia gallery dedicated to urban culture in the Grande Croce, the relocation of the Puppet Museum to the SottoCroce, a Learning Centre complete with Civic Library, a Meeting and Conference Facility and an area dedicated to Collective Memory and Reflection.
