Micro Gold Steel, HPFRC fibre-reinforced micro-concrete is the ideal solution for strengthening beams, columns and beam-column nodes.
The technical specifications of Micro Gold Steel, HPFRC fibre-reinforced micro-concrete offer numerous advantages:
· reduction or elimination of strengthening reinforcements;
· low usage thickness (approx. 2-5 cm);
· reduced weight increase of the existing structure.
As has been noted, existing columns in reinforced concrete may be subject to structural weaknesses against the following stresses:
· insufficient capacity to resist combined axial and flexural forces;
· insufficient capacity to resist shear forces.
Therefore, the requisites that must be satisfied by concrete columns are as follows:
· appropriate rigidity of the element;
· sufficient resistance of the section;
· necessary ductility of the resisting element.
Using fibre-reinforced concrete FRC means that it is possible to reduce the thickness of the jacketing applied to the column, increasing the performance of the strengthened element, while reducing the reinforcement.
This solution involves installing the FRC system, applying it to the columns as a jacket (even without reinforcement) consisting of high-performance fibre-reinforced micro-concrete, at a reduced thickness (about 2 to 5 cm) depending on the degree of strengthening to be achieved.
Structural strengthening of beam-column node panel
Reinforcing beam-column node panels represents an interesting application for increasing the capacity of the dissipation zones of reinforced concrete frames.
Strengthening against shear and flexural forces in beams
In the same way as columns, pre-existing reinforced concrete beams may present severe structural deficiencies rendering it necessary to intervene by applying flexural and shear strengthening. A similar situation may arise when a building undergoes a change of intended use or is the subject of seismic improvement work.
In such cases, the use of structural strengthenings, such as FRCM and FRP, may not be sufficient to meet the new structural requirements, meaning it may be necessary to intervene by increasing the initial section.
The use of HPRFC fibre-reinforced concrete may replace and/or supplement the ordinary flexural and shear reinforcements that the original section lacks.
